DMV offering voter ID service

With just over two months until the Nov. 8 election, voters are encouraged not to delay in obtaining the necessary identification. Most voters already have a photo ID to vote, like a driver license or state ID card. However, people who do not have photo ID for voting can get one for free at the DMV.
DMV has developed an online application to guide ID applicants through the application process. This free online service allows them to complete and submit an application online, as well as receive a checklist of all documentation required when visiting a DMV service center.
For people who do not have all documents required to obtain a Wisconsin ID card, a petition process is available at http://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/license-drvs/how-to-apply/petition-process.aspx.
People who make use of this process are eligible to receive temporary identification card receipts that serve as a valid ID for voting. The receipts will be sent to customers within six business days of application. For those who apply during an election week, DMV will issue a photo ID receipt by overnight mail on the day that a person makes an application. However, there is no reason to wait until the last minute! People are encouraged to take time during the next two months to apply for their free ID for voting.
