Attack with a ball hitch results in felony charge for Merrill man

Early Sunday morning, officers responded to a reported physical altercation on the 300 Block of South Foster Street.

Upon arrival, officers observed a male victim laying in the street in a pool of blood, barely conscious and bleeding from the mouth and head. According to witness statements, a male approached the residence on a bicycle carrying a ball hitch. The male then struck the male victim with the hitch and fled the scene, leaving the male victim unconscious.
The male suspect was later identified as 34-year-old Anthony Zierahn and was taken into custody on a Felony charge of Substantial Battery. Both men were transported to Ministry-Good Samaritan Health Center for medical treatment/clearance. Upon being medically cleared, Zierahn was transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
