Merrill golfers had a busy week

Press Release

On Monday, May 9th, four players competed in a JV match in Merrill. Scorers included Wesley Mcintyre who lead the team with a fine score of 45, followed by Travis Wright (58), Mitchael Cammack (60), and Dallas Kaufman (72).

On Thursday, the JV squad again competed at Indianhead in Mosinee. Bluejay 9-hole scorers included Brendon Root (58), Mitchael Cammack and Wesley Mcintyre  (62 each), Travis Wright (64), Brian Root (65) and Dallas Kaufman (72).

Last Tuesday (May 10th), the varsity team competed in the fourth leg of the seven match conference tournament at Greenwood Hills Country Club. Leading the way for the Bluejays was freshman Hunter Wallace with a break through round of 39-38=77. Hunter had his game together on that rainy day with steady play from his long and short game. He proved his potential as he continues to move up the all conference list. Following Hunter were seniors Tanner Pettit (46-48=94) and Connor Kleinschmidt (50-49=99). Rounding out the Bluejay team were Freshman Mitchael Cammack (59-65=124) and Brendon Root (63-65=128).

On Friday, The Bluejays competed at the Wausau Country Club in the fifth leg of the conference tournament. Scores included 45-48=93 for Tanner Pettit, 47-50=97 for Hunter Wallace, 65-67=132 for Wesley Mcintyre, and 76-67=143 for Mitchael Cammack. While Tanner and Hunter remain relatively steady for the Bluejays, freshman Wesley and Mitchael did not play their best on that day but are gaining valuable varsity level experience for the years to come.

On Saturday, the Bluejays hosted their annual Bluejay Invitational: a two man best ball, four man team event. Ten teams participated on this unusually cold day. But having the course to themselves, the tournament went on as scheduled. Wausau East won the team event with a four man score of 337, followed by Wausau West (343), Rhinelander (354), Antigo (356), and Merrill finishing seventh with 376. Scorers for the Bluejays team included Tanner Pettit shooting 46-42=88, Hunter Wallace with 49-43=93, Tad Pike with 46-49=95, and Connor Kleinschmidt with 49-52=101.

Medalists for the event included WV Conference leader Matt Tuman with 72, followed by Sam Brettingen and Zack Fauk from Antigo with scores of 79 and 80. The Bluejays travel this week to Marshfield on Tuesday May 17th and conclude the conference tournament on Friday May 20th in Merrill. The WIAA Regional event will follow on Tuesday May 24th.
