Health Department announces Public Health Photo Contest winner

The Lincoln County Health Department is proud to announce the winner of the Public Health Photo Contest, Brenda Mueller of Merrill. She was awarded a Schwinn Hybrid Super Sport 2 Disc bicycle donated by Schwinn, designed locally in Madison, WI, for her photo submission showing composting.
Contestants were asked to submit photos during the month of April showing “what public health means to me.” Photos were required to address one of the following public health themes: (1) Making Healthy Choices (2) Being Safe (3) Protecting the Environment (4) Volunteering/Participating in Community Groups.

Brenda’s photo of composting represented the public health theme, “Protecting the Environment.” In the description that accompanied the photo, Brenda explained that her and her husband carry kitchen scraps to their compost bin all year long. During spring they put the compost into their garden to enrich the soil for their vegetables and flowers. She explained that by composting, they help protect the environment by decreasing waste in the landfill and reducing the amount of fertilizer and pesticides needed in the garden.

Thanks to all photo contest applicants and congratulations to Brenda for submitting an excellent photo that depicted public health.
