Bluejay varsity soccer lost to Wisconsin Rapids – Lincoln Tuesday with a final score of 10-0, initiating the mercy rule at the 74-minute mark. This loss puts Bluejay soccer at 0-6 in conference and 1-11 overall.

Rapids sent shot after shot towards Merrill’s goal without letting up. A storm delay forced the game to pause at the 34-minute mark with Rapids up 4-0. Officials and coaches agreed to just start the second half of the game and tack on 11 minutes at the end of the second half but that proved unnecessary as the mercy rule was called when Rapids got their tenth goal in.

“We actually didn’t look too bad despite the score,” adds head coach Stephanie Nelson. “We had a few shots, with one on goal and we were putting some really good passing plays together. I will give them [Rapids] the fact that they are a very athletic and fast team, and some of their players are pretty skilled, but as a whole I know that DCE and SPASH are better so I’m assuming that’s what they wanted to do; beat us by more than DCE and SPASH.”

Bluejay varsity soccer will have their next game on Tuesday, May 10 at 5 p.m. hosting Wausau East at the MARC.
