Merrill Police reports

April 18
3:30 p.m.- An officer responded to an elementary school for a theft of a school issued Ipad. No suspect at this time. Investigation is ongoing.

3:31 p.m.- An officer responded to a theft complaint. The caller advised their child’s school issued Ipad had gone missing from their residence at the end of March. Investigation is ongoing.

3:48 p.m.- Officers located a male party on East Main Street who had an active warrant for his arrest. Contact was made with the male party who was arrested for the warrant and taken to jail.

April 19
6:39 a.m.- An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was operating the wrong way on a one way street. In speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver admitted to smoking marijuana and advised there was marijuana in the vehicle. The driver and passenger were taken to jail on numerous charges.

2:25 p.m.- Officers responded to the middle school for an out of control student. The student had kicked, bit, and pulled out some hair of a teacher. The student was transported to Secure Detention and is being referred to Social Services for battery.

7:39 p.m.- An officer responded to a suspicious activity complaint. The anonymous caller advised three juveniles were sitting in a parked vehicle on the street for a while and this seemed suspicious to them. Contact was made with the juveniles who all denied driving the vehicle to the location it was parked as none had a driver’s license. K9 Eros was deployed around the vehicle and gave a positive alert. The officer conducted a search of the vehicle and occupants. A methamphetamine pipe was located in the vehicle. No one took ownership of the drug paraphernalia and two of the juveniles will be cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. The third juvenile was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. The third juvenile will be referred for those charges.

April 20
5:28 p.m.- An officer investigated property damage complaint at the MARC. Two benches inside of the dog park area had been damaged. Anyone with information about this is encouraged to contact the Merrill Police Department.

April 22
10:13 a.m.- An officer responded to a school for a theft complaint. A teacher had reported a theft of money and other items. The suspect was caught stealing and was cited for the theft.

6:15 p.m.- An officer responded to a child neglect complaint. The caller stated a female party had left two small children in a vehicle unattended for over 10 minutes. The suspect vehicle was located and the children were unattended. The mother was located and denied the length of time the children were alone. The matter is being referred to Social Services.

April 23
9:34 p.m.- Officers responded to a disorderly conduct complaint. A juvenile had gotten into a verbal argument with their mother and ran from the residence. The juvenile was located and was taken back home. All parties involved were spoken to and advised to stay in separate rooms for the night and discuss the issue in the morning.

April 24
12:45 p.m.- Officers responded to Walmart for a shoplifting complaint. The male party was being non-compliant with officers and was detained for safety reasons. The male admitted to stealing the merchandise and was cited for retail theft.
