Marie Prete

Marie Prete(nee Pultz), 89, went home to our heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 while at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Merrill, Wisconsin.

Marie was born on 7/12/1926 in Chicago to John and Sophie Pultz. She married Angelo Prete on 10/5/1958.

She moved to Merrill from Chicago in the 70’s and worked at Mel’s Big Dollar, as well as Good Samaritan Hospital and Pinecrest Nursing Home.

When Marie was younger, she loved to listen to the radio and to her grandfather play polish music on the violin while dancing the polish hop.  During her lifetime, she enjoyed many different activities. She loved reading, sewing, bingo, movies, shopping, and making trips to the casino.  She enjoyed cooking for her family, and everyone took great delight in her famous spaghetti.  Marie was also a foster grandparent at Lincoln Hills School for 12 years, where she loved to bake and play cards with the boys.

She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Johnson, Homewood, IL and Diane(David) Belter, Merrill, WI; and a son, Dr. James(Mary) Prete, San Antonio, TX; daughters-in law, Jean Humphrey and Kitty Daverman. Grandchildren, Rose Strom, John Humphrey, Jim(Denise) Humphrey, Melissa(Ron) Borchardt, Jay(Laurie) Humphrey, Chloe Johnson, Abra(Jason) Van der Geest, Nicholas Prete and Nathaniel Prete. Great-grandchildren, Logan, Sierra, Collin, Kyle, Alicia, Autumn, Madison, Brandon, Ella, Jessica, Jillian, and Steve. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sophie Pultz; sons Jess Humphrey and William Daverman; sisters Virginia Castro, Margaret Manhart, Lorraine Amerin, and Irene Brens; brothers Chester Kopek and James Pultz.

The family wishes to thank all the staff, aides and nurses at Pinecrest Nursing Home for caring and comforting Marie during her stay there, as well as Dr. Barb Crapster-Pregont.

Marie’s best friend and daughter-in-law, Jean, spent endless hours with her and helped care for her during her recent illness. She is an angel on earth.

A Mass of Christian burial for Marie will be held on Monday, March 7, 2016, at 1 PM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Deacon Jim Arndt will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 5-7 PM at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill, Wisconsin. Entombment at Merrill Memorial Park will follow Mass. Waid Funeral Home of Merrill is assisting with arrangements. Online funeral condolences can be made online atwww.waidfuneral.com.
