Charges pending in rash of road sign thefts

Three weeks ago, Lincoln County deputies requested information after road signs were reported stolen from the Town of Harding in western Lincoln County. Soon after the report, the townships of Russell Birch, Schley, Corning, Scott and Merrill also reported thefts.

A week ago Tuesday, acting on a tip, the Recreation Deputy began investigating an ice shack on Lake Alexander as he had information that it contained a large number of stolen signs. Deputies also visited a home in the Town of Merrill and located a large quantity of road signs that were stolen.

Three Merrill men, all age 19, have admitted their involvement in the thefts. The Recreation Deputy is waiting to determine costs before he forwards a report to the Lincoln County District Attorney. Deputies are still seeking several signs.
