Lots of fun to be had in the Merrill area this weekend

This weekend will feature a host of activities in and around Merrill, including Merrill Winterfest on Saturday.

The Merrill Youth Hockey Bantam Tournament will be going on at the MARC (Smith Center) Saturday. Admission is free.

Kate Goodrich School, 505 W. 10th St., will be hosting a Co-ed Volleyball Tournament starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

T.B. Scott Library will be hosting a Cookbook Exchange from 10 a.m. to noon.  Bring in your gently used cookbook and go home with a different gently used cookbook.

The Merrill Optimist Club will be holding Cardboard Sled Races at Lions Park Saturday.  Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. The Octogan Club will be selling hot chocolate in the warming house.

On Lake Alexander, the Merrill Ice Drags 51st season will be getting underway Saturday at Council Grounds State Park, N1895 Council Grounds Dr. Come on out to the fastest 1/8th mile drag auto racing on ice in the world.  Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and racing begins at noon. Food and pit passes will be available.

The Gleason Ice Oval Races will also be underway Saturday at Gleason Community Club Park, just off Hwy. 17. Registration is from 8-10 a.m. and racing starts at 11 a.m.  The races feature ATV’s, snowmobiles, carts, and motorcycles.
