Next MACA concert to feature Alaska String Band

In a spectacular celebration of winter, the Merrill Area Concert Association presents Southeast Alaska Odyssey showcasing American music against a backdrop of Alaska’s culture and landscape. This family-friendly performance artfully weaves a tapestry of atmospheric impressions giving an intimate peek into the curiosities of one of our nation’s most treasured and pristine wilderness escapes. The dynamic Alaska String Band brings its vocal and instrumental talent to Merrill on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Merrill High School Auditorium.
The Zahasky family consists of husband and wife, Paul and Melissa, along with their three children, daughters Laura and Abigail, and son Quinn. They all sing, harmonize and play a multitude of stringed instruments from mandolin, dulcimer and guitar to fiddle and string bass – hence the name Alaska String Band.
Their shows move along at a lively pace, highlighting classic American genres such as swing, jazz, bluegrass, pop, and gospel, and they even include a few original tunes. As gifted instrumentalists, they often swap instruments during a performance and tie everything together vocally with their signature Zahasky family harmonies.
The band frequently entertains passengers aboard cruise ships in Alaskan waters and visitors at the Chilkat Theatre during the Alaskan summer months or while on tour in the lower 48 states during fall and winter. They are quickly gaining an enthusiastic following for bringing their extraordinary music and fascinating Southeast Alaska Odyssey show to thousands.
Attendance at all Merrill Area Concert Association performances is by membership only. This enables the organization to bring top entertainers to our local stages at an affordable rate year after year. Not only does a season ticket get you into all of our concerts, you can attend additional concert association events in Antigo and Medford as well.
