Merrill Police Department reports

December 18
12:43 p.m.- A caller reported someone stole credit cards from her purse while at a facility in Merrill. One other female was found to be the only possible suspect. An officer made contact with her and she admitted she had stolen the cards and also made several purchases at local stores using the stolen cards. There will be additional follow-up and appropriate charges forthcoming against the suspect.
2:52 p.m.- A crash was reported on West Main Street at Genesee Street. A westbound vehicle struck a vehicle turning off West Main onto North Genesee. The driver of the offending vehicle was cited for failure to yield right of way when making left turn. A crash report was completed.
3:16 p.m.- A caller reported a student out of control. The young man became upset in finding that he would be having visitation with his mother over the weekend and began throwing items about the classroom. He will be referred to Social Services for disorderly conduct.
December 19
1:58 a.m.- An officer on patrol observed a vehicle that had several equipment violations. A traffic stop was conducted and officers observed open intoxicants as well as several unopened alcoholic beverages in the vehicle. Both the driver and the passenger were found to be underage and both admitted to drinking. The driver was taken back to the police department and placed through field sobriety tests due to the temperatures outside at the time. The driver was ultimately arrested for violation of the absolute sobriety law and also cited for underage person transporting intoxicants. The passenger was cited for underage drinking.
12:39 p.m.- An officer took a report from an individual that someone had taken the temporary license plate off of his vehicle.
1:47 p.m.- An officer responded to a local business for a theft complaint. The suspect was identified and later admitted to taking the items. She was cited for retail theft and warned that she is no longer welcome at the business.
1:59 p.m.- An officer took a report that someone had entered the reporting party’s vehicle and taken grocery items as well as a prescription medication while it was parked at a local business.
8:13 p.m.- Officers responded to a local business after staff had confronted a male subject about leaving without paying for an item. When confronted the male subject fled from the business running on foot. Officers checked the area and were unable to locate the subject. Video footage was obtained and the investigation in ongoing.
December 20
6:11 p.m.- An officer responded to a local business after staff had confronted and individual who had left the store without paying for an item. The suspect was identified and was issued a citation for retail theft.
