John Toth, age 84, of Merrill, died Monday, November 23, 2015, at Ministry St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.
John was born July 14, 1931, in the Glandon area of Marathon County, son of the late Joseph and Rose Toth. He married Darlene A. Naef on April 11, 1953. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2011. John served honorably in the United States Air Force for over 22 years. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant. John then went to work for Badger International, Wausau, where he worked as a mechanic. John and his late wife traveled throughout the world during his military career. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing softball and slow pitch, and coaching Little League.
John is survived by two daughters, Grace (Greg) Pfingsten, Wausau, and Pamela Toth, Merrill; one son, Glen (Renee) Toth, Merrill; four grandchildren, Staff Sergeant Samuel (Clarissa) Toth stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, Emily Toth, Merrill, and Kaisha and Kiana Pfingsten both of Wausau; and two great grandchildren, Bentley and Harper Toth of Nevada; and one sister, Margaret Mantick, Alexandria, Minnesota. Besides his wife and parents, John is preceded in death by two siblings in infancy; four sisters, Mary, Anna, Helen, and Alma; and four brothers, Louis, Frank, Joe, and Bill.
The funeral will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 30, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Joel Hoelter will officiate. Entombment will follow in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum, with graveside military rites conducted by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard along with members of the Wisconsin Military Funeral Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 9:30 AM Monday at church.
