Morgan Sondelski, a student at Merrill High School, performed as one of 10 exemplary soloists from throughout the state in an honorary recital on Oct. 30 at the annual Wisconsin State Music Conference in Madison. Morgan performed a French horn solo.
In spring, Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) adjudicators identified truly exemplary soloists who performed at nine WSMA State Solo & Ensemble Festivals. Of the 32,000+ students who qualified and participated at the state level, more than 400 received “Exemplary Soloist” certificates. After a careful screening process, 10 of those selected vocal and instrumental soloists performed in the combined recital for an audience of music teachers, parents, other family members, friends and peers.
WSMA is a service organization with more than 1,000 member public and private schools. Each year, more than 100,000 students take the initiative to become involved in WSMA activities, including District and State Music Festivals, Concert Festivals, State Honors Music Project and State Marching Band Championships. WSMA, headquartered in the Wisconsin Center for Music Education, is governed by a board of directors made up of superintendents, principals and other officers from all over the state. WSMA believes music is a basic human need, and that all children have the right to experience all that music offers them.
