Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reports

Two people are in the Lincoln County Jail after a traffic stop early Saturday morning led to numerous charges. A resident on State Rd. 64 in the Town of Corning phoned the Sheriff’s Office at 4:38 a.m. to report a man had come to his home seeking gasoline and the caller felt the man was impaired. A deputy was watching for the vehicle and stopped it on State Rd. 64 at County Rd. E a short time later. The driver, a 36-year-old Prentice man, displayed signs of intoxication and was placed through field sobriety tests, as a result of those tests the man was taken into custody on a fifth offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. That charge could turn into a seventh offense as the driver is out on a felony bond through the Taylor County Court after he was charged in that county with a fifth offense of OWI in 2013. Also the driver was wanted by the Shawano County Sheriff after he failed to appear in August on a fifth offense count of OWI. That charge was the result of an injury crash in June of 2015. The man was also charged with a felony count of bail jumping for violating his no drink bond in Taylor County. The passenger in the vehicle, a 55-year-old Green Bay woman was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of bail jumping. It was found she was violating terms of a bond in Shawano County involving a drug case by drinking alcohol. Both had initial court appearances on Tuesday in Lincoln County Court.
A 63-year-old Appleton woman was injured after a one vehicle rollover crash Saturday afternoon in the Town of Bradley. At 4:45 p.m. cell 911 callers reported a vehicle had left the roadway and crashed on US Hwy. 51 at County Rd. D. The driver told the investigating deputy that she had reached in the back seat for an item and in doing so she went off the roadway. She over-corrected the vehicle causing it to go off the roadway and roll over. The woman was transported by Tomahawk EMS to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. She was later released. The driver will be cited for inattentive driving.
A 23-year-old Merrill man was arrested late Saturday evening after deputies responded to a disturbance in the Town of Merrill. A caller off of Hillside Drive reported that bystanders were afraid for the man’s safety as he was intoxicated and had fallen and cut his head open and was trying to leave. Deputies spoke with the man but he refused to cooperate and insisted on leaving the residence. Deputies took the man into custody on a disorderly conduct charge. After he was treated at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center the man was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on the misdemeanor charge. He was released late Sunday after posting a cash bond.
A 34-year-old Hewitt man was arrested early Sunday morning on warrant charges. The man was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped on US Hwy. 51 at County Rd. S just before 2:30 a.m. A check confirmed the man was wanted by the Clark County Sheriff for contempt of court. The suspect was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was booked on the warrants. He was later able to post a cash bond and be released.
A 13-year-old Racine youth was injured in an ATV crash Sunday afternoon in the Town of Skanawan. Just after 1 p.m. a cell caller reported an ATV had left the trail and struck a tree near Otter Lake Road and Bear Trail Road. The victim was brought out to Grundy Road where deputies and EMS located him. The youth was transported by Tomahawk EMS to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital where he is treated and released; he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Firefighters from the Tomahawk Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist.
Heavy thunderstorms came through Lincoln County starting right before 4 p.m. on Sunday. A short time later a home was struck in the Town Corning. A 911 caller on Leafy Grove Road reported their home was struck by lightning. When deputies and firefighters arrived they found no fire but only damage to the home’s electrical panel. Firefighters checked the home and cleared within an hour of the call.
The number of car deer crashes is back down with four being reported this past week, half of last week’s total. A Menasha man struck a coyote early Sunday morning on US Hwy. 51 at Tamarac Lane south of Tomahawk. His vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
