Merrill Relay for Life this Saturday

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Merrill will be held Saturday, Aug. 8 from 3-11 p.m. at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Merrill. Registration begins at 3 p.m. with the opening ceremony at 4 p.m. The survivor recognition lap will follow and the luminaria ceremony will be held at 9 p.m.
Fourteen teams of walkers have registered to walk the track at the fairgrounds to raise funds to fight cancer. The St. John, Knights of Columbus and Jaycees stands will be open during the event selling food and refreshments as Relay fundraisers.
Activities during the event will include horse and wagon rides, hair cut-a-thon, games, Wausau Children’s Museum activities, and a basket and big ticket drawing.
A big part of the Relay for Life is celebrating cancer survivors and honoring those who have lost their battle to the disease. Cancer survivor Bill Burgener of Merrill, an 11-year cancer survivor, is this year’s Merrill Relay Hero of Hope.
