Doris Raasch

Doris Raasch, age 89, of Merrill, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born October 18, 1925 in Merrill to the late Clarence & Frieda (Kleinschmidt) Weide. On November 24, 1945 she and Leslie Raasch were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage. He preceded her in death in September 1987.
Doris attended Trinity grade school and went on to graduate from Merrill High School in 1944. She worked at Weinbrenner and the Foto News in the office for many years. Doris enjoyed gardening and made many beautiful quilts. She volunteered at the Merrill Senior Center and received several awards for her service and dedication. Doris was the emergency contact for Jenny Towers for many years. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and served in many different capacities including the ladies aid “Women of Faith” where she was treasurer and arranged funeral luncheons, and was a Building Committee member, Zone Chair and Vice Chair for LWML, flower committee member and also a member of the choir. Doris was a former member of the Merrill Housing Authority.
Survivors include her two daughters: Susan (Donald) Pankow and Rachel (Dennis) Schult, all of Merrill; four grandchildren: Scott (Colleen) Schult, Merrill, Joel (Jean) Schult, Wausau, Kristin (Andrew) Jacobson and Ryan M. Pankow, all of Merrill; seven great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Derek, Emma, Anna, Janna, Bennett and Layla; one brother-in-law: Robert Wendt, Merrill; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother: LaVern Weide and one sister: Luella Wendt.
Funeral Services for Doris will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church, Town of Maine. Rev. Kevin Hoogland will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Wednesday, July 8 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10 AM until the time of service at the church on Thursday. Burial will follow in Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Scott. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Doris’ name. The family would like to thank Pine Crest Nursing Home staff, Aspirus Cardio Unit and the Palliative Unit staff for their care. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
