Merrill Police Department reports
June 15
2:40 a.m.- An officer conducted a traffic stop after a query of the registration showed that the male registered owner had an active warrant for their arrest. The male was found to be a passenger in the vehicle and was taken into custody for the warrant.
4:28 p.m.- Officers were requested to take a male subject into custody for a probation violation. He was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
10:29 p.m.- An officer took a report of a theft of a television set from a residence. A suspect was identified and the investigation is ongoing.
June 16
1:06 p.m.- An officer responded to a business on South Pine Ridge Avenue for a report of a shoplifting complaint. A juvenile suspect was cited for theft and released to a parent.
7:01 p.m.- Officers went to a residence on East Main Street after receiving information that a male subject with active warrants was there. Officer located the male subject at the residence and he was taken into custody.
7:21 p.m.- An officer responded to a report of a dog running at large on East Sixth Street and being aggressive. Officers have responded to the residence several times in the past and citations had been issued. Citation was issued for dog running at large and the city attorney will be notified of the continuing animal nuisance.
10:24 p.m.- An officer responded to a noise complaint in the 100 block of North Prospect Street. Contact was made with the male subject and he was identified. The male subject was found to have a warrant through Bayfield County. He was arrest for the active warrant.
June 17
An officer investigated two burglaries in the 2200 block of River Street. Various items were taken, and the investigation is ongoing.
3:58 p.m.- Officers arrested a male in the 1800 block of East Main Street for a Probation Violation.
June 18
11:11 a.m.- An officer arrested and transported a male to the jail for a Probation Violation.
June 19
Officers responded to a complaint at Stanges Park due to damage done to a handicap portapotty. The company was notified and Park and Recreation will assess the damage as the city is responsible for any costs or damage. Anyone with information please call the Police Department at 536-8311.
Officer cited a juvenile for shoplifting at a retail store.
Officers took a male into custody due to a violation of his probation.
A number of traffic stops and citations were issued on Taylor Street.
Officers arrested a 36-year-old woman for a Marathon County warrant after being called to a local business where the woman was thought to be shoplifting. During the arrest process she was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
An officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Mill Street and East 9th Street. During the traffic stop a K-9 was called to the scene. While the K9 Trooper from the State Patrol was talking with the driver, he admitted to having a pistol concealed under the driver’s seat. The male was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.
Officers responded to a harassment/stalking complaint, a male party was warned to stay away from a female party.
June 20
Officers responded to a East 6th Street address and investigated a possible burglary.
June 21
Several officers responded to a reported incident involving a person armed with a gun. A male called and reported a female was armed with a gun and was threatening to shoot him. Upon arrival officers learned the male and female were in an argument and that no weapon was involved.
Multiple agencies responded to a report of a 13-year-old male underwater near Ott’s Park. After an extensive underwater search, the youth was located and determined to be beyond life saving measures. The death has been classified as an accidental drowning.
