Traffic on US Hwy. 8 was blocked for almost two hours on Monday afternoon after a semi-truck became stuck in the ditch. The driver, who was from Illinois, was trying to make a Y turn at US Hwy. 8 and Deer Lake Road in the Town of Bradley north of Tomahawk when his truck became hung up on the edge of the roadway. The incident took place just after 3 p.m. and it took until almost 4 p.m. to get the vehicle free and the roadway open again. A deputy from Oneida County assisted Lincoln County deputies at the scene.
A 19-year-old Tomahawk man was arrested Tuesday evening on a drug charge after a traffic stop in the Town of Merrill. A deputy stopped the vehicle a man was driving on US Hwy. 51 near County Rd. G just before 8 p.m. A K9 unit from the Wisconsin State Patrol checked the vehicle and a search turned up a pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana. The man was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was charged with of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released after he posted a cash bond.
A 55-year-old Irma man was arrested Thursday evening on warrant charges after deputies took him into custody at his Town of Skanawan home. Deputies had been searching for the man for several weeks after they investigated a suspicious person complaint and learned the man was wanted by the Wood County Sheriff. A deputy checking the area of the man’s home on Grundy Road located him around 7:30 p.m. and took him into custody. The man was transported to the jail.
A 32-year-old Wausau man is in the Lincoln County Jail after deputies investigated a complaint of shots being fired in the Town of Rock Falls. At 4:40 a.m. Sunday morning, a caller reported hearing shots being fired near residences on State Rd. 107 near Rock Falls Drive. When a deputy arrived in the area he also heard shots being fired and soon observed three men, some armed, coming out of the woods. The deputy made contact with the men and learned one was on bond through the Marathon County Sheriff requiring absolute sobriety. A breath test showed the man was consuming alcohol and he was taken into custody for a misdemeanor count of bail jumping. The investigation into the case is continuing.
The number of car deer crashes is down slightly with six being reported this past week.
