Merrill Walks introduces new walks for 2015

Merrill Walks is pleased to announce the start of the third season of historical walking tours of Merrill. The 2015 schedule runs from Friday, May 22 through Saturday, Sept. 5.
“Tragic Tombs is a new walk for 2015,” says tour guide Jane Francoeur. “On this walk you’ll learn some of the tragic tales that brought families to the peaceful cemeteries on Merrill’s east side. Murders, drownings, a railyard accident, an unfortunate incident in a shed, and a death that today would be easily prevented are some of the horrible things you’ll learn about on this walk.”
Merrill’s West Side was known as the “Wild West” when lumber was king in this area. Only a few of the 42 taverns that were once active on the West Side remain today, but participants will visit them all in the full-on pub crawl known as the Lost Taverns walk.
The 2015 Merrill Walks schedule also includes West Side 1912, East Side 1912, Holy Cross Hill, and Law and Order, popular walks from the past seasons.
Merrill Walks are about two hours in length with 30-45 minutes spent in actual walking. No reservations are needed and the walks take place rain or shine. A Merrill Walk costs $5. Children 12 and under accompanied by their parents go free. Schedules are available at Merrill Chamber of Commerce and Merrill History & Culture Center. Further information is available at www.merrillwalks.com. and on Facebook.com/Merrill Walks.
