Red Robin lady sluggers trump THS

Last Tuesday, the Tomhawk Hatchet varsity softball squad came up short 2-6 at Antigo, in a Great Northern Conference showdown with the Red Robins.
Despite the loss, slugger Alicia Kurth enjoyed a stellar afternoon hitting 1-of-2 for a 2-run homer; scoring Rachel Dallman (1-1). Dallman allowed 17 hits but just 3 walks with 1 K.
“Today was our first time on the field as a team,” comments head coach John Larson. “With that in mind, I feel our girls played a solid game. Defensively, we had minimal mistakes with only three errors. Being our first game of the year, that’s acceptable.”
“(Rachel) Dallman pitched very well in her first varsity start! She had tremendous control, changed speeds well and for a freshman; handled herself like a seasoned veteran.” Larson explains.
“The glaring difference in the game came on offense. While Antigo pounded out 17 hits, we only had 2. However one of those hits was a two-run home run by Alicia Kurth to straight away center. If the hatchets are going to be competitive this season, the bats are going to need to come alive.”
The ladies next contest will come on April 17th when they travel to Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
