Burglar found dead in Corning home

A Merrill man phoned the Sheriff’s Office last Wednesday and reported a possible burglary at a home in the Town of Corning.

The man explained he watches a neighbor’s seasonal house and when he entered the home Wednesday afternoon he found items strewn about, drawers pulled open, kitchen and bathroom cabinets rifled through and food packages opened and eaten.

A deputy responded to investigate the incident but right before he arrived the neighbor phoned back to say he found the culprit inside of the home deceased. The deputy confirmed a raccoon had made entry into the home and made the mess as it ate its way through it. The raccoon eventually came across some mouse poison and seemingly expired after consuming the package.
