Woman arrested with shotgun in vehicle

A 42-year-old Chilton woman was taken into custody Wednesday evening after multiple agencies searched US Hwy 51 for a reported armed woman. Calumet County authorities put out a request to locate the woman after they had received information that she was armed and may be headed to the Tomahawk area. Furthermore, deputies in Calumet County worried about the safety of a Tomahawk woman, fearing the Chilton woman may try to harm her. Deputies went to the Tomahawk woman’s home in the Town of Bradley while additional deputies, a Trooper from the Wisconsin State Patrol, and Tomahawk and Merrill Police Officers watched US Hwy 51. Just after 8 p.m., a patrol officer from the Merrill Police Department spotted the vehicle just north of Merrill and stopped it south of the County Rd K exit. The woman was subsequently taken into custody and a search of the vehicle produced the shotgun and shells. An officer from the Merrill Police Department who is specially trained in recognizing people impaired by drugs tested the woman and as a result she was cited for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated – first offense. Law enforcement brought the woman to a local hospital where she was held until deputies from Calumet County were able to come to Merrill and take her into custody. They indicated the woman would be taken to a hospital in the Fox Valley.
