Sunday, Feb. 22, Merrill Historical Society invites everyone to a DJ dance party from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at their location at 100 E. Third St. in Merrill. The theme of the event, “Dancing Through the Decades,” says it all. All are invited to revisit the 20th century through its dance melodies as DJ Brian Bannigan spins a wide assortment of tunes. Dance, learn a new step or two, or just listen and reminisce about your glory days in high school – it’s up to you. In addition, there will be refreshments and a slideshow of photos of Merrill High School and Junior High School back in the day. Put on your “dancing shoes” and join in the fun. Costumes like poodle skirts or prom dresses are encouraged.
“Sock hops and dances are such fun, whether you come with a date or meet up with a group of folks once you arrive,” says Bea Lebal, one of the committee members for this event. “We thought it would be nice to host a dance to give everyone, even if their high stepping days are decades in the past, a chance to hear some memorable music. We are also having a special guest appearance by Steve Strasman who, along with his brother Jimmy, had a band called The Javelins back in the 1960s.”
Space is limited. Advance tickets are $10. Tickets are available at the Historical Society office Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 1 pm. You can purchase tickets at Lee’s Piggly Wiggly, Johnson’s Pharmacy, Blooming Wishes, First Street Coffee Station and Dave’s County Market. Tickets can also be purchased on line at the Society’s website: www.merrill history.org. Tickets at the door are $15.
