Hodags edge THS wrestlers

Rhinelander took a critical step forward in GNC rankings by edging the Hatchet grapplers 35-34 in Thursday’s road match.
The Hodags are alone in first at 3-0, while the Hatchets are tied for second at 2-1 with Lakeland and Antigo. Tomahawk has already handled the Red Robins 56-12 on Jan. 8 and the Hodags crushed the T-Birds 64-12 on Dec. 18.
“We definitely had our opportunities to win it,” THS coach Bob Garrou said. “Rhinelander has a nice team, but it’s disappointing. We’ll have to get them at the conference tournament. If you’re a fan, it was a good dual meet. If you’re a Rhinelander fan, you loved it. Both teams won seven matches. I can’t fault our kids for their effort. Their effort was amazing.”
Pulling out the seven wins for THS in a match that started at 220 were: Dane Borchardt (220, 1:19), Jake Borchardt (285, :15), Brady Anderson (113, 7-6), Keagan Jach (138, 3:21), Quinton Wallenfazng (170, 6-0), Salde Erdman (182, 10-1) and Kaleb Kaminski (3:00).
Losses came from: Isaac Tomek (106, 1:15), Blake Carstensen (120, 12-2), Cullen Wegener (126, 2:41), Matt Turkewicz (132, 13-2), Dakota Tomek (145, 5:05), and Nate Flohr (160, 9-7).
