Frieda E. Karau, age 96, of Merrill, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, while living at Woodland Court Elder Services in Merrill.
Frieda was born August 1, 1918, in the town of Stettin, Marathon County. She is the last surviving child of fourteen children born to the late Carl and Mathilda Zunker. Her first marriage was to Lylas Radloff in 1939. She then married Alfred H. ‘Fritz’ Karau on July 16, 1960, in Merrill. The marriage ended with his death on June 8, 2004. Frieda was a devoted and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. She enjoyed reading her Bible on a daily basis, and taking trips with her family. Years ago Frieda had worked at Fromm Brothers in Hamburg.
Frieda was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Jim) Mahn, Merrill; two sons, Gary (Lola) Radloff and Bruce (Connie) Radloff, both of Athens; a step son, Allan Karau of Marshfield; her grandchildren, David Mahn, Amy (Randy) Lisowski, Gary Lee (Linda) Radloff, Brian (Kristi) Radloff, and Adam, Tabitha, Jennifer, Jessica, Hunter, Emma, Alison, Tanney, Lily, and Sadie Karau; thirteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Frieda is preceded in death by her parents, husband ‘Fritz’, and thirteen siblings, her twin sister Mildred, sisters Selma, Lena, Laura, Alma, Luella, and Florence, and her brothers Julius, August, Arthur, Edwin, Walter, and Arnold.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. R. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate. Burial will follow in Merrill Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Saturday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
