THS tips Eagles
The Hatchets gave up a rally in last Tuesday’s 44-36 loss to Lakeland, but rallied for a 63-58 triumph over Northland Pines on Friday.
Tomahawk turned a 15-14 deficit into a 31-27 halftime lead that held up to 47-43 through the third. The Eagles hit a three at the buzzer to cut a 63-55 deficit to its final state.
“It was a nice offensive game, we executed pretty well, especially in the half-court” THS coach Tim Albert said. “On defense, we allowed them to penetrate too much, and we didn’t do a good enough job of locating their shooters.”
Hatchet scoring was paced by Jordan Roessler (25), Justin Jarvensivu (15), Brandon Vecchio (13) and Andrew Olson (6).
Lakeland gulch
THS held an 18-13 lead midway thorough the second quarter, but Lakeland rallied to leads of 22-18 at the half and 32-24 after the third. Both scored a dozen in the fourth.
“We got off to a very good offensive start,” Albert said. “We ran our stuff and found the open man with good ball movement. (But) we had three turnovers during the T-Bird run that led to easy baskets for them. We also gave them a couple of second-chance opportunities.
“We executed well, but couldn’t get anything to fall in the third. We executed very well against their zones, but missed a couple easy ones that would have made it a one possession game. Lakeland then did a good job of hitting their free throws down the stretch.
Points were provided by Roessler (15), Vecchio (11) and Jarvensivu (8).
