Hatchet girls cross .500

The Hatchet girls built a three-goal lead through the beginning of the third period in Friday’s home contest with Point/Rapids, then held on for a 4-3 triumph.
THS is 3-3 in the GNC and 5-4-1 overall.
“Tomahawk faced the Point Rapids co-op for what was to be, as always, a great contest,” Vallier said. “The two teams have battled for the past four years and Tomahawk – even maybe not as good on paper – has always showed up to play versus this team.
“Tomahawk came out strong and hustled and won the puck battles throughout the game and scored early to send a message. The game had another first and that was Dacoda Shore having a two-goal game, with the hat trick just missing the open net as the clock ticked to zero. Erin Sparks did as she always does and had another great game.
“The Tomahawk girls are a great group and are hard workers and have certainly made themselves be noticed in the Great Northern, and being a non-co-op team, it just shows that you can play the game against the best players if you play as a team and work hard.”
Erika Vallier (UA) and Shore (A- Lauren Bembinster) sandwiched first period goals around a Point tally for a 2-1 edge, and Shore (A- Nicole Nerva) scored the only goal of the second with 5:05 left. Vallier (UA) netted what proved to be the game-winner 12:29 into the third.
Saves–THS–Erin Sparks 4-5-7–16. P/R Merina Chappel 4-14-8–26.
