Russell L. Scheu, age 68, of Greendale, formerly of Merrill, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon, WI.
He was born Oct. 8, 1946 in Merrill to Leslie and Delores (Voigt) Scheu. He and Donna Flannery were united in marriage on May 6, 1967 in Antigo.
Russ was a 1964 graduate of Merrill High School. He served in the U. S. Air Force as an electronics tech, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. After his Air Force career, Russell moved back to Merrill in 1986. After his retirement, Russ served as Veterans Service Officer for Lincoln County. He, Donna and the kids have traveled the world together and have shared many fond memories together. Russ enjoyed vegetable gardening and camping in Montello and Tomahawk North Forest. Family was very important to him and he went out of his way to help others in need. Russ was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Russ loved to spend time outdoors by “nature’s tv,” or the campfire. He was known as “Mr. Fix-it” as he could fix anything he put his hands to. Russ was a good man and very well liked. He and Donna had recently moved to Greendale to move closer to their children. Russ was involved in DAV, American Legion, VFW, AM Vets and CVSO Association. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife: Donna Scheu, Greendale, WI; mother: Delores Scheu, Merrill; four children: Kevin (Terry) Scheu, Mequon, Julie (Carl) Schilz, South Milwaukee, Darren (Angie) Scheu, Westerville, OH, and Jason (Jill) Scheu, Menomonee Falls; seven grandchildren: Ben, Ryan, Dylan, William, Evy, Sophia and Abigail; four sisters: Judy Chartier, Merrill, Sandy (Don) Roloff, Wausau, Donna (Daryl) Berndt, Rothschild, and JoAnn (Steve) Carlson, Ellsworth; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends across the country. He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Scott Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:30 – 7:30 PM Tuesday, November 25 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10:00 AM until the time of service Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow in Merrill Memorial Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by VFW Post 1638. The family requests donations be made in Russ’ name to Trinity Lutheran School, The Fisher House of Milwaukee or the charity of choice. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
