Robert W. Bauer, age 83, of the Town of Maine, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under the care of his loving family, the nursing home staff, and hospice services.
Bob was born Nov. 28, 1930, in Ringle, WI, son of the late Frank and Wilhelmina (Steinbach) Bauer. He married Beverly Steckling on May 4, 1963. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2012.
Bob had been employed at the former Northern Door Company, Merrill, for 28 years. He had also been employed for 10 years at Wausau Lumber Sales. Bob was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Town of Maine, and was a former Trustee. Bob was an avid sports fan and enjoyed listening to Brewers, Packers, and Badger games. He also enjoyed deer hunting and playing cards, especially Uno. Bob honorably served in the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950s and was stationed stateside.
Survivors include his five children, Terry Bauer of Merrill, Jane Bauer of Merrill, Penny Bauer of Marshfield, Jean Bauer of Wausau, and Leea (Jeremy) Behr of Mosinee; his granddaughter, Reggin; and one sister, Joyce (Walter) Wiederhoeft of Wausau. Bob is preceded in death by six siblings, Lillian, Ormand, Bev, Erna, George, and Dale.
The funeral will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church, Town of Maine. The Rev. Kevin Hoogland will officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Town of Maine. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 12 Noon on Tuesday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the Bauer family.
