Historic Merrill calendars available now

The Merrill Historical Society is pleased to announce that the 2015 Historic Merrill Commemorative Calendar is now available for purchase. The Merrill Historical Society has been putting together these calendars since 1997, making this the 19th consecutive year of publication. During that time approximately 250 different photographs and drawings have been used in the calendars, all from the collection of the Merrill Historical Society. Sales of the calendar have increased by 400-450 calendars each year. Calendars have been purchased not only locally, but nationally as well, with mailings going to several states. Thanks go to the many local businesses and citizens who contributed to the Society over the past years by sponsoring a month. This year 16 sponsors stepped up to help.
The 2015 front cover is the 1965 Merrill High School Homecoming Queen and Court. Lana Chilsen Strasman, 1965 Homecoming Queen, recalls, “When I was selected queen I received a gold foot ball charm with ‘Homecoming Queen 1965’ engraved on it, a white football covered in flowers which you can see in the photo, and a silver wishbone broach that I treasure to this day. My family has a lot of history in Merrill, our roots go back over 100 years. I’m proud to be a part of the 2015 calendar.”
A calendar can be yours for only $8, and for $2 extra the Society will mail a calendar to you or your gift recipient. Calendars are available in Merrill at the Merrill Historical Society History and Culture Center,as well as LeRoy’s Hair Care Center, Aunt Lu’s Antiques, Book World, The Checkered Churn, Dave’s County Market, Johnson Gifts & Home Decor, Mike’s Barber Shop, and VIP Office Products.
