Hatchets open up playoff possibilities with P/RL rout

The Hatchet football team cut loose on the ground and in the air while limiting the Prentice/Rib Lake response to secure Friday’s 34-8 triumph.
“It was Senior Night and it turned out to be a big night for senior Jake Borchardt,” THS coach John Larson said. “Jake was a force on the football field. He ran hard, was physical, broke a lot of tackles and found the end zone. The Hatchets would also have a solid night throwing the ball. The Hatchets would finish with their best offensive effort of the year.
“Defensively, the Hatchets put together another solid effort holding the visitors to 168 total yards, 53 of them coming late in the game on a trick play. We were very physical, had 11 hats to the football and finished our tackles. We got some good pressure on the quarterback, and forced him out of his comfort zone.”
THS improved to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the Marawood, with a road game with Chequamegon (5-3, 3-3) on deck.
“There is a small window of opportunity for the post-season,” Larson said. “But to have all this to play for at the end of the season is very exciting.”
Borchardt converted runs of 15, 54 and 18 yards to help THS to a 21-0 lead through three quarters. Kaleb Kaminski hit Dakota Thompson with a 64-yard strike in the fourth, and Borchardt closed it out with a 14-yard blast. Thompson hit 2-of-4 PAT kicks and Kaminski passed to Isaac Schoone for a two-pointer.
Borchardt (20-251, 4 TDs), Kaminski (14-45), Dane Borchardt (8-18), Jordan Roessler (1-25) and Schoone (1-3) pushed THS to 340 rushing yards. Kaminski hit 6-of-9 passes for 132 yards, to Thompson (2-91, TD), Schoone (1-37), D. Borchardt (2-7) and Roessler (1–3).
The THS defense held P/RL to 168 yards, including 53 on a late trick play. Pacing THS were: J. Borchardt (3 solos, 16 assists); D. Borchardt (3 S, 12 A, 1 PBU); Kaminski (5 S, 6 A, 1 FF); Brandon Vecchio (8 A); Josh Phillips 1 S, 5 A); Schoone (2 S, 3 A); Keagan Jach (3 A); Tony Bradley (3 A).
