Dementia Walk takes center stage Oct. 11

For the second year in a row, Bell Tower Residence Assisted Living will be holding a walk for dementia. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1500 O’ Day St. in Merrill. During the first year of the event $10,000 was raised.
Four routes will be available from .35 miles up to 3.2 miles. Registration materials are available at the front desk in the lobby at Bell Tower Residence. The public can also participate by purchasing display cards from Drew’s Piggly Wiggly and Dave’s County Market or at the front desk at Bell Tower Residence in memory or honor of someone special.
According to Pat Sherley, Administrator at Bell Tower Residence, “Half the fund will be used for a ‘Music & Memory’ program for the activities department at Bell Tower Residence and the rest for dementia research in Wisconsin.” Activities such as this walk educate the public to the ongoing support needed in caring for those with dementia.
This past April Bell Tower Residence held a ribbon cutting for the third floor Memory Support Neighborhood.  The updates provided through a grant from the Bierman Family Foundation of Merrill allowed Bell Tower to make the necessary modifications needed to maintain a safe and secure environment for those with memory loss.
