George F. Grund, age 74, Merrill, passed away unexpectedly, September 9, 2014 at his home.
George was born in Merrill on July 11, 1940 to the late Ulrich and Marie (Heinz) Grund. He married Carol Komp on September 3, 1966 in Wausau. She preceded him in death on December 29, 1977.
George grew up working on the family farm. His father died unexpectedly when he was young. He belonged to the Operating Engineers Union Local 139 for 46 years and worked as a heavy equipment operator. George also had jobs logging, construction, driving milk truck, school bus and owned his own semi truck. He had his own business thawing frozen pipes and welding. He could fix almost anything! George enjoyed working on cars, hunting, welding, and just tinkering around in his shop. His biggest enjoyment was riding his Harley Davidson, going out to eat and spending time with his grandchildren.
George is survived by his three daughters; Jennifer (Steven) Annis, Merrill, Mary Grund (Marty), Marathon, Christine (Paul) Green, Kaukauna, grandchildren; Damien (Tracy) Annis, Devon Annis, Jessica Green, Andrew Green, sisters; Carol Luedtke, Schofield, and Monica Mulligan, Chile.
Preceded in death by, brothers; Eugene, Roland, and Gary.
Celebration of George’s Life will be 1:30 on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Waid Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of services at the funeral home. Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery.
