Jack J. Ament

Jack J. Ament, age 86, of Merrill, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center.
Jack was born on July 20, 1928 to the late Roman and Esther (Borchardt) Ament. He married Darlene Chauvin on October 1, 1949. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2013. Jack served in the military, first with the Merchant Marines and later with the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. After being honorably discharged he served in the National Guard and was a life member of the VFW Post 1638, Merrill. Jack worked for Wisconsin Public Service as a lineman for 35 years and enjoyed his retirement for 25 years. Jack was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill, and was a third degree Knights of Columbus. Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, going to the family cabin, golfing, fishing, polka dancing, woodworking, and traveling.
Jack is survived by four daughters, Christine (Tom Supple) Ament, of Manitowish Waters, WI, Terri Henrich, of Merrill, WI, Debbie (Greg) Franda, of West Bend, WI, Lisa Hintze, of Cedar Rapids, IA; four sons, John (Vicki) Ament, of Eagle River, AK, Dr. Pat Ament, of Warrensburg, MO, Michael (Laurie) Ament, of Tomahawk, WI, and Tim (Tammy) Ament, of Deerfield, WI; 14 grandchildren; 20 grandchildren; and three sisters, Jean Zimbal, of AZ, Florence Mulvahill, of OR, and Lois (Bill) Welk, of WI. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Darlene; his parents; and one brother, Roman Ament.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. Concelebrants will be Father Michael McLain and Father Joseph Kleinheinz. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill, with graveside military rites conducted by VFW Post 1638, Merrill. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bell Tower and Artisan Assisted Living, the Merrill EMT’s, the doctors and staff at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center, and Ministry Home Health Care Personnel for their care.
