Shirley L. Sherriff

Shirley Leone Sherriff of New Port Richey, FL, died on July 20, 2014 at the age of 85.
She grew up Shirley Groth in Merrill, where she attended Trinity Lutheran School and Church in Merrill. Shirley fell in love and was married June 21, 1951 to Rolland Lee Sherriff, also of Merrill, and together they celebrated 63 years of life. “Good times,” she said.
For many years Shirley owned and operated Jack and Jill Playschool in Merrill before retiring and moving to New Port Richey, FL, in 1979. Having faith, she was active at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Merrill where she taught Sunday school. Shirley enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader and will be fondly remembered for her shopping skills, especially the second hand stores. Shirley enjoyed retirement and loved traveling back to Wisconsin to her summer cottage in Richland Center.
She was preceded in death by her Father Erwin Groth and Mother Matilda Groth (Bartelt) of Merrill and her brother Alan Groth of Virocqua. She is survived by her husband, Rolland; sister Lois Hahn of Rothschild; sons Christopher (Ann) Sherriff of New Port Richey, FL, Steven (Nancy) Sherriff of Rock Falls, WI, and Susan (Norbert) Calnin of Richland Center. She deeply loved her four grandchildren, Benjamin Sherriff, Nathaniel Calnin, Christopher Calnin and Katie Calnin; and six great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed until we see her again in glory.
A memorial to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held Aug. 23 at 11:30 a.m. in Richland Center, at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home, with lunch to follow.
