A 46-year-old Irma man was arrested early last Tuesday morning at the request of the Department of Corrections. The monitoring center in Madison notified the Sheriff’s Office that there were issues with the suspect’s electronic monitoring system and requested he be taken into custody. The man was brought to the Lincoln County Jail and held.
A 29-year-old Tomahawk man was arrested on Thursday evening after a deputy investigated a bail jumping complaint. A caller phoned the Sheriff’s Office and reported that a man at a residence on Park Lane in the Town of Bradley had been drinking in violation of a bail bond issued in Oneida County. When a deputy arrived, he found the man intoxicated and breath test confirmed the impairment. The suspect was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was held on the misdemeanor charge. At a bond hearing on Friday, the man was released by a Lincoln County Judge on a signature bond.
A 26-year-old Sun Prairie man was arrested early Friday morning on drug charges after a traffic stop in the Town of Bradley. Just before 2 a.m., a deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on US Hwy. 51 at County Rd. D. After noting signs of drug use, the K9 from the Merrill Police Department was called to the scene and indicated to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. When the driver was asked about this, he admitted to having marijuana and the deputy recovered two baggies of the substance along with a pipe commonly used to smoke it. The suspect was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released after posting cash bond.
A 62-year-old Waukesha County man was arrested early Sunday morning on a traffic charge. A deputy was on patrol on County Rd. D near Twin Lakes Rd. east of Tomahawk, when he observed a motorcycle lying on the side of the road. When the deputy stopped to check on the driver, who was standing next to the bike, he smelled intoxicants. The man admitted to the deputy he was drinking in Tomahawk and was trying to drive home when he dumped the bike, but was not injured. The man was placed through field sobriety tests and as a result he was taken into custody on a first offense charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Unable to find a sober driver, he was brought to the Lincoln County Jail and held.
After an increase, the number of car deer crashes has gone back down with four being reported this past week. Two bear were also struck. On Monday evening, a Merrill man struck a bear on US Hwy. 51 near County Rd. S south of Tomahawk just after 10 p.m. On Saturday, an Illinois man struck a bear on US Hwy. 51 near County Rd. V near Irma. In both cases, the bears were killed in the crashes. Also a turkey was struck this past week. On Thursday morning, a Mosinee woman struck a turkey on County Rd. K near Short Rd. in the Town of Scott south of Merrill. Her vehicle had to be towed after the bird smashed her windshield.
