Shuman named Youth Optimist of the Month

The April Youth Optimist is Sarah Shuman, who was nominated by Ms. Jenny Eder and Mrs. Dawn Jameson. Mrs. Jameson comments that, “Sarah has a high work ethic. She has an outstanding positive, contagious attitude in everything she does. Sarah is always very respectful and doesn’t mind helping others out.” Ms. Eder states that, “Sarah is diligent in her academics while working to help others, both in school and in her community. Her goals and college plans are focused on making this world a better place.”  
Sarah currently has a GPA of 3.66 and is ranked 44 of 240. She has taken such courses as Honors English Composition, Honors Speech, Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry and AP Psychology. She participates in Debate, Forensics, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Dance and Octagon Club. Sarah has received honors and awards for Debate, National Honor Society, citizenship award, Outstanding Business and Technology Award and has been on the honor roll throughout her high school years.  
Outside of schoo,l she volunteers with Generation 180 youth group, free health care clinic at Highland Community Church, Lincoln County Humane Society, Run United Race at Riverside Athletic Club and Parisi Speed School at Riverside Athletic Club.
Sarah is planning to attend Emmaus Bible College to receive a double major in Biblical Theology and Counseling Psychology. She is the daughter of Tim and Becci Shuman.
