Hatchets take 2-of-3; in GNC second place

The Hatchet baseball team kicked off last Tuesday’s double header atLakeland with a resounding win, but let the T-Birds escape town with a second game win.
Tomahawk roughed up Pines two days later, in another road game.
Kevin Bolder one-hit Lakeland in Tuesday’s opener while fanning 13.
“Kevin had a nice day on the mound,” THS coach Wes Roessler said. “He was able to keep the Lakeland batters off balance and off the bases.
“Our bats started to come to life tonight. Some of the guys have not hit the ball like they are capable and they started to hit the ball hard.”
A strong third inning broke open a scoreless contest, and it didn’t end there.
Tomahawk–  004 202 1–9.
Lakeland–000 100 0–1.

The second game featured four lead changes, but the T-Birds broke a sixth-inning tie with three runs in the top of the seventh.
“This was an exciting back-and-forth game,” Roessler said. “Unfortunately, the game ended with Lakeland ahead.
“We weren’t able to come up with a clutch hit or two to push us over the top. The Lakeland hitters were able to take advantage of a few miscues and they also made some nice defensive plays. Both Jared and Chris battled through some tough situations on the mound.”

Chopping Pines
The Hatchets scored a half-dozen runs twice in the first three innings to take complete control, and force an early end to Thursday’s game.
“The bats stayed hot for the guys,” Roessler said. “We had several players with big nights at the plate. Kaleb and Aaron came up with some big hits with runners in scoring position.
“As a team we were able to take advantage of their mistakes. It was a great team effort. Everyone on the team had a hit, RBI or scored a run.”
