Learn how you can play with T.B. Scott Library’s new 3D printer, or just find out how it works, at two upcoming open house sessions, on Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m., and Thursday, April 24 at 10 a.m., in the library’s board room.
Purchased by the Friends of T.B. Scott Library, and assembled with the help of a library patron, the 3D printer is located on the third floor of the library and is ready for patron use. The 3D printer will help library users of all ages become more comfortable with this technology, and build on our community’s resource base for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education, critical to our nation’s economic competitiveness and prosperity.
An exciting new technology, 3D printers differ from most traditional printers. Instead of using ink, a 3D printer uses plastic filament on spools. The 3D printer melts the plastic and forms it into three-dimensional objects; the library’s unit can create items up to six inches high.
At the open house sessions, library information coordinator Richie Zaborowske will demonstrate the 3D printer in action. He’ll also discuss how the library is making the printer available for patrons to create real three-dimensional objects on their own. So, whether you’re just curious to see how this unit works, or want to get hands-on with it, be sure to attend one of the two open house sessions.
