John J. Sattler

John J. Sattler, age 61, longtime Tomahawk attorney, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. 
John was born July 18, 1952, in Wausau to the late John A. and Marian (Schalow) Sattler. He grew up in the Wausau area and was a 1970 graduate of DC Everest High School. 
John, known as “Stretch,” was the starting center for Everest during the championship years of 1968-69 and 1969-70. He was also a 1970 Channel Seven All Star. After graduating from high school, John attended St. Norbert College in DePere where he earned a scholarship and started at center on the basketball team. He was named All-Conference as well as team captain and MVP his two final years. 
John graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Norbert College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He then attended law school at Marquette University, graduating in 1977. He practiced with a Wausau law firm for five years. While in Wausau, John was active in the Wausau Community Theater and Lincoln Community Theater as an actor in several plays. He moved to Tomahawk and started Sattler Law Office which he operated until he passed away. John had previously served as the Lincoln County Court Commissioner.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Ruth Sattler, of Wausau; his niece, Andrea Sattler, of Menomonie; his nephew, Nick (Brenna) Sattler, of St. Paul, MN; and great niece and great nephew, Kira and Ben Sattler, of St. Paul, MN. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marian Sattler.
A celebration of John’s life will be held Thursday, April 17, at Generations Funeral Home in Tomahawk. The family asks that you come and share memories of John’s life from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
