Elroy D. Pfingsten

Elroy D. Pfingsten, age 85, of Merrill, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill. 
Elroy was born March 20, 1929, in Merrill, son of the late Albert and Margaret (Clausen) Pfingsten. He married Emily Oknewski on June 26, 1954, in Merrill. She survives. 
Elroy had worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Company, T.B. Scott Library, and the Lincoln County Courthouse. Elroy retired as a firefighter with the Merrill Fire Department. Elroy enjoyed fishing, woodworking, walking and going for bike rides, watching western movies, and bus trips. Elroy also enjoyed going to church with his wife, Emily. 
Survivors include his wife Emily Pfingsten, Merrill; two daughters, Marianne (Larry) Vonderheid, and Louise (Brian) Fox, both of Merrill; one son, Kevin (Dawn) Pfingsten, Merrill; his grandchildren, Melissa Pfingsten, Rosalie and Zachary Fox, and Amanda and Cody Vonderheid; one step granddaughter, Heidi (Joe) Schreiber; two step great grandchildren, Theodore and Anika Schreiber; and two sisters, Ruth Olson of Utah, and Phyllis Tewes of Menasha. 
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon on Tuesday, April 15, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. The Rev. Michael McLain is presiding. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. 
The family wishes to thank the Special Care Unit at Pine Crest Nursing Home and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services for the excellent care they provided Elroy.
