Accidental shooting in Gleason

Lincoln County deputies investigated a shooting in Gleason that left a 52-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg.
At 2:38 p.m. on Saturday, the 911 center took a call of a man who was short of breath at a residence on State Rd 17 in Gleason. As Merrill EMS responded to the call, a deputy arrived on the scene minutes later. When the deputy asked the man about his medical problem, the man pointed out that he had been shot in the leg.
Deputies determined the man was in a bedroom of the home when he threw a bag containing a loaded pistol on the ground. When the bag hit the ground, the .38 caliber derringer discharged, striking him in the leg.
The man was taken directly to Aspirus Wausau Hospital where he was treated and released. According to the sheriff’s department, no criminal charges are planned in this incident.
