Ethel M. Plachetka
Ethel M. Plachetka, age 84, of Tomahawk, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at Woodland Court Elder Care in Merrill.
She was born Feb. 12, 1930 in Phillips, WI to the late Henry and Lydia (Salo) Henderson. Ethel grew up in the Brantwood area and attended school in Tripoli. She was a 1947 graduate of Tripoli High School. She was later married to William Plachetka; he passed away on Dec. 11, 1996.
Ethel was a member of the Tripoli Log Church and was a former treasurer for the church. She served as the treasurer for the Town of Lynne for 25 years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, and making quilts. Ethel especially loved cooking, and baking for her family and taking care of them.
Survivors include five sons, Wayne (Janie) Plachetka, of Greenville, WI, Doug (Debbie) Plachetka of Tomahawk, Bruce (Margo) Plachetka of Hamburg, WI, Jeff (Tina) Plachetka of Wausau, and Mike Plachetka of Gordon, WI; three daughters, Jo Marie Carmichael of Wausau, Susie (Randy) Hess of Grantsburg, WI, and Mary (Casey) Jones of Tripoli; one son-in-law, Tom Schroeder of Wausau; one brother, Ed (Tibby) Henderson of Manhattan. Ethel is further survived by 21 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lydia Henderson; her husband, Bill Plachetka; two sons, Gary and Jim; two daughters, Cindy and Wendy; her brother, Bill Henderson; her sister, Millie Kaegan; and her special friend and cousin, Elaine Miller.
Services for Ethel M. Plachetka took place on Tuesday, Feb. 18, from Generations Funeral Home in Tomahawk, with Pastor Larry Mathein to officiate. Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips, WI in the spring.
