Fire station ribbon-cutting ceremony set

The City of Merrill announces the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. for the new fire station located at 110 Pier St. in Merrill.
Join Mayor Bill Bialecki, Fire Chief Dave Savone, city officials, architects and engineers from Becher-Hoppe of Wausau, and general contractor Ellis Stone of Stevens Point at the ceremony.
This new fire station is a centrally located, 4-bay, 20,000-square-foot building to house the fire apparatus, ambulances, and support units; with adjacent operations support areas, administrative offices, training space, and living quarters.
The design of the new station incorporates an innovative exterior wall and roof system to provide energy savings over the life of the building. Construction of the new fire station began in May 2013 and it was substantially completed in January 2014.
The Fire Department will hold a retirement ceremony for the old 1916-built Fire Station 1 at 701 E. First St. at 12:40 p.m. on Feb. 6, before firefighters walk to the new station on Pier Street. The public is invited to join these events and celebrate the dedication of the upgraded facility for the citizens of Merrill.
