Midwest Dental to offer free dental care to Merrill children in need
Dr. Matt Welch and his staff at Midwest Dental will provide free dental care to underprivileged children on Friday, Feb. 7 as part of the annual Give Kids a Smile day sponsored by the American Dental Association.
Give Kids a Smile is the centerpiece of February’s National Children’s Dental Health Month, when the dental health community focuses on children whose families may not have direct access to regular dental care. Midwest Dental is working with local public health agencies, area schools, Head Start programs, nonprofit agencies, and youth and community organizations to identify children in need.
“It’s heartbreaking to see a child’s smile destroyed by severe tooth decay,” says Dr. Welch of Midwest Dental. “Imagine not being able to eat, sleep, or pay attention in school because you have a mouthful of toothaches. Oral health plays an important role in overall health, and untreated dental disease affects a child’s physical, emotional, and social development.”
To receive care, children must be registered in advance. Parents are asked to call 715-536-8345 to make an appointment. Care will provided from 8 a.m.-noon at Midwest Dental, 3424 E. Main St., Merrill.
