Elaine D. Koll, age 87 of Merrill, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice at Bell Tower Residence. She was born March 5, 1926 in Oshkosh, WI to Guy M and Eleanor (Kinderman) Smith. Eleanor passed away when Elaine was six. Later Guy married Sylvia Schulz who was a wonderful mother to Elaine. On October 20, 1945 Elaine was united in marriage to Donald Koll in Oshkosh. Elaine was a secretary at Wisconsin National Life Insurance Company and Bell Machine Company in Oshkosh. After the family moved to Merrill in 1963, she worked as
secretary / receptionist at Anson Gilkey Company. She was a charter member of Holy Cross Auxiliary (now Good Samaritan Volunteers) and was very active there and at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Elaine was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening. During her time at Bell Tower she delighted the residents and staff with her colorful patio garden. Elaine and Donald enjoyed spending their free time at their cottage in the Northwoods. Best of all, she enjoyed the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was “Granny” to all. She is survived by her husband Donald of Merrill, one daughter Mary Jo (Jay) Schnur of Merrill, one son John (Julie) Koll of Eau Claire, WI, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, and one great granddaughter.
Memorials may be given to Bell Tower Residence, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Celiac Sprue Association of Omaha, Nebraska or charity of their choice
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Bell Tower Chapel
Visitation: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Bell Tower Chapel
Inurnment: Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date
