Barbara A. Hopp

Barbara A. Hopp, age 76, of Merrill, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Barbara was born July 26, 1937, in Merrill, daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (Krause) Coey. She married Harold Hopp on Dec. 24, 1956, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. He survives.
Barbara had worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the former Holy Cross Hospital, Merrill. She then worked at the former Best Western, the former Dave’s Red Owl, and Cozy Corner, all in Merrill. She enjoyed flower gardening, taking an occasional trip to the casino, going out for breakfast, traveling, and dogs. Barbara was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill, where she had received the Faith Award for 24 years of service to her church. Barb was one of those behind the scene unsung heroes of the church, who like so many women of the Bible, performed the support ministry for the Christian enterprise. By far, the greatest gift she gave the church was her faithfulness in organizing servers for funeral lunches and other meals at the church. In addition to this very special ministry, she was a long time member of the Dorcas Circle of the church, and a member of the Mission Guild. She had also been active as a Vacation Church School teacher and a worker in the nursery. In her youth, she participated in both the junior choir and the youth choir.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Hopp, of Merrill; one daughter, Roxanne (Tony) Baumann, of Merrill; two sons, Bert (Darcia) Hopp and Allan (Leslie) Hopp, of Merrill; four grandchildren, Kristina Hopp, Eric Hopp, Katelyn (fiancé Ben Kollock) Baumann and Geoffrey Baumann; and one brother, Gordon (Ruth) Coey, of Anacortes, WA. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Iris Wait.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. Pastor Missy Holdorf will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery, Merrill. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
