Lincoln County offices closed until noon on Tuesday, MAPS closed Tuesday

For the safety and welfare of the public, and county employees, Lincoln County offices will be closed until noon on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Lincoln County Administrative Coordinator Randy Scholz announced Saturday that Lincoln County offices would be closed on Monday, Jan. 6. The weather forecast for Monday was for wind chills to reach 55 to 65 degrees below zero.
All classes and activities at Merrill Area Public Schools were also canceled for Monday, the district announced Sunday. Classes and activities for Tuesday have also now been canceled.
The entire state remains under a wind chill warning until Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Sullivan says the “life-threatening” arctic blast is bringing wind chills of minus-35 to minus-55 degrees.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office administrative offices are closed Monday and possibly Tuesday due to the extreme weather conditions. All other functions of the Sheriff’s Office go on as normal and deputies are putting on extra miles checking roadways for stalled motorists, having checked on 30 disabled vehicles this past week. Sheriff Jeff Jaeger is reminding you not to travel during the next couple of days unless you absolutely have to and to pack a cold weather kit and a charged cell phone if you must go out.
