Ida Matthes, age 99, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 at Ministry St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston. She was born December 22, 1914 in the town of McMillan, WI to the late Wilhene and Ella (Koch) Ehrike. She married Melvin L. Matthes on June 12, 1935 in the town of McMillan. He preceded her in death.
Ida was a home maker. She enjoyed reading and latch hook crafting. Ida especially loved taking care of her grandchildren who were a very important part of her life. She also liked playing cards and for many years she enjoyed Polka dancing. Ida was an avid Packer and Cub fan. She was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter: Sally (Walter) Wendland, Merrill; grandchildren: Stephanie (Brian) Madden, Shakopee, MN, and Michael (Michele Kieke) Wendland, North St. Paul, MN; five great grandchildren: Ian Madden, Kaitlyn Madden, Andrea Madden, Claire Wendland and Andrew Wendland; and one brother: Gordon Ehrike, Stratford, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; infant daughter; son, Gary Matthes; great-granddaughter, Ashley Wendland; three brothers, William Ehrike, Reinhold Ehrike and Frank Ehrike; and four sisters, Anne Radtke, Frances Frank, Frieda Weichelt and Caroline Weichelt.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Friday, December 27, 2013 at Waid Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of service also at the funeral home. Pastor Linda Kuhn will officiate. Burial will follow in Merrill Memorial Park. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
