Merrill students participated in Holiday Mail for Heroes, an annual drive organized by The American Red Cross Heroes to send personalized holiday cards of appreciation to service members and their families. Several schools from the Merrill area participated including Kate Goodrich, MHS, the Northern Achievement Center and Prairie River Middle School.
The Holiday Mail for Heroes program is an extension of the Red Cross’ work with services members and veterans each year. It provides a “touch of home” for veterans, military families and active duty service members in hospitals, military installations and other locations around the world.
The total number of cards collected from Merrill was 946. In addition to the public schools, a large number of cards also came from home-schooled students. Boxes with cards were also available at First Street Coffee Station, The Fresh Boutique, and The Checkered Churn that customers could address to soldiers and veterans.
